THE HYPOPRESSIVE TECHNIQUE

If you suffer from any of these symptoms, the Hypopressive technique might be a great addition to your exercise regime:

    • weak and/or tight pelvic floor
    • pelvic organ prolapse
    • urinary incontinence or leakage
    • abdominal separation (diastasis recti)
    • hernia
    • decreased metabolism
    • larger waist girth
    • painful intercourse

The Hypopressive technique is an amazing method that is - in the last few years - being used by more health professionals here in Canada.

    • The HYPOPRESSIVE technique was developed in Europe by Dr. Marcel Caufriez in the 1980’s with the goal of helping postnatal women prevent and recover from pelvic floor dysfunctions such as incontinence and prolapse.

    • The term ‘HYPOpressive’ refers to a decrease or reduction in pressure. This form of exercise reduces pressure to the thoracic, abdominal and pelvic cavities. It works by provoking a suction and elevation of the connective tissues, offering a myofascial release while decongesting the pelvic cavity. Traditional exercises, abdominal training, gravity, as well as the majority of our daily activities are HYPERpressive – they increase intra-abdominal pressure. Hypopressives help balance out the pressure system.

    • Hypopressives benefit the whole core system and can help prevent and heal the injuries caused by detrimental pressure to the pelvic floor.

The following videos, courtesy of Trista Zinn from Coreset Fitness in Toronto, outline the differences between Hypopressives and traditional core training and explain her personal story. She teaches the Hypopressive technique certification courses in Canada for health professionals our trainers have taken, allowing us to be properly trained to teach this amazing way of training the core to our clients:
